Hyderabad: Rahul Jaiswal, detained in connection with the death of a police officer during an illicit liquor crackdown in Madhya Pradesh's Dewas district, has reportedly admitted to being associated with the Congress and managing a liquor shop in which he holds a 30 per cent stake, police said.
An officer from the team investigating the case, led by Special Director General of Police Upendra Jain, shared a video of Jaiswal being questioned with the media. In the video, he is heard saying that he is currently the Congress's in-charge for the Khategaon Assembly constituency and served as the district Youth Congress president from 2018 to 2024-25.
The case relates to the death of Khategaon station house officer Dilip Puri, who went to the Indore-Betul highway after receiving information about illicit liquor smuggling. Police said Puri questioned the driver of a truck parked near a roadside eatery. The driver then drove over the road divider to escape, and the truck's rear wheel ran over the officer.
Police have also detained Keram Singh Changod and Vijay Rao. Officials said Jaiswal ran a smuggling network from Timarni in Harda district to Gujarat, Changod provided the truck to the driver, Gajendra alias Akku Rawat, and Rao admitted to working for Jaiswal.
Minister Vishwas Sarang alleged that Jaiswal and his brother are partners in the liquor shop and that Jaiswal is close to the state Congress president. However, congress leaders did not respond to the allegations. (With inputs from PTI and media reports)
