The Trinamool Congress on Thursday challenged the BJP to “deploy as many platoons of Central forces or even military, but we will continue to win the elections so long as we have people’s support.” Reacting to posers about BJP president Amit Shah’s claim that the Trinamool could sweep the Bengal civic polls only because it was conducted by the State police, who remained defunct throughout State, Minister Subroto Mukherjee said, “The BJP is trying to cloak its failure to win elections in Bengal.”
The polls were rigged and police remained a mute spectator, Shah had earlier alleged, adding that in the next year’s Assembly polls results would be different as the polls would be conducted by the Central forces. The TMC had won the civic polls to 92 municipal boards with thumping margins leading the Opposition parties to call a Statewide bandh on Thursday.
