'Delhi Govt failed to provide funds for electrification of unauthorised colonies'

Staff Reporter

Criticising the Kejriwal Government on Wednesday, Delhi BJP said the Delhi Government has persistently failed to provide funds for electrification of unauthorised and recently regularised colonies along with land for putting up grid and sub-stations to discoms.

"More than 1/3rd of Delhi's population numbering about fifty lakhs has been denied its legitimate rights to have uninterrupted supply of electricity in their homes. Due to lethargy on the part of Delhi Government, lakhs of families are compelled to lead miserable life," said Vijender Gupta, leader of Opposition in Delhi Assembly.

Gupta said that the discoms have repeatedly requested the government to provide their share of funds for electrification of these areas along with land for putting up necessary electrical infrastructure /transformers as required.  The discoms have stressed that the delay has resulted in overloading of existing network of adjoining areas and it is difficult to provide any new connections as also to ensure power reliability in nearby areas. TPDDl has pointed out that it had no choice but to refuse providing the new connection to 3874 connections on account of these issues. But the Government has so far not paid any heed to the repeated pleas of the discoms.

"DERC in its letter dated 29th August, 2013 directed discoms that they cannot put the burden of electrification cost of providing electricity in unauthorized colonies, on common consumers of electricity in Delhi. This expenditure has to be shared by Delhi Government and discoms," added Gupta.
