The cracks in the Assam unit of the BJP came to the fore on Wednesday after Pradyut Bora, a party leader and member of the BJP’s national executive member tendered his resignation over ‘subversion of the democratic tradition by the Modi-Shah duo and political corruption in Assam BJP’.
“My departure from the BJP is not a knee-jerk reaction to any specific event, but a gradual disillusionment-loss of faith-with the general drift of the party at both the national and State levels,” said Bora on his letter addressed to media, which was available on social networking websites like Facebook and Twitter.
Bora, who had unsuccessfully contested the 2011 State Assembly polls from Jalukbari constituency in Assam, had earlier been vocal against the party leadership in Assam over their alleged attempt bring in Congress legislator and former Assam Health and Education Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.
Bora, in his letter listed five reasons for his resignation-Assam features fairly low on the priority of the national leadership, subversion of the democratic tradition by the Modi-Shah duo, political corruption in Assam BJP, BJP’s dalliances with the most corrupt Himanta Biswa Sarma and President of BJP’s Assam unit Siddhartha Bhattacharya’s actions and utterances.
