Controversy over Congress election manifesto was back in focus on Sunday with BJP president Amit Shah claiming that the Congress had promised free electricity to only mosques and churches leaving out the temples.
Addressing an election meeting in Narayanpet he charged Congress and Telangana Rashtra Samiti with indulging in appeasement of Muslims.
Amit Shah levelled the allegations despite the repeated clarifications from Congress leaders that the party had promised free electricity to the religious places of all communities including temples.
Congress has also promised salaries to the temple priests at par with the Government employees and financial assistance to Brahmin families living below poverty line. The families with an income upti Rs 2 lakh in rural areas and Rs 4 lakh in urban areas will be eligible for the assistance.
However ever since the manifesto was released BJP with the backing of a section of media had gone to town claiming that the Congress had promised sops only for Muslims.
An official spokesperson rejected the allegations of Amit Shah saying this was a desperate attempt by the BJP to polarise the people on communal lines.
