The Omar Abdullah-led coalition Government in Jammu & Kashmir is likely to complete its term of six years as the Congress is undecided to pull out of the coalition in the aftermath of recent poll debacle. Party in-charge of J&K affairs Ambika Soni said that she favoured continuation of the Government but the final call on the issue would be taken by party president Sonia Gandhi.
Soni was here to deliberate with the party leadership over the causes of poll debacle. She held several joint and individual meetings with the party leaders to receive actual feedback before strategising for the upcoming polls.
Interestingly, former Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad called upon his predecessor and People’s Democratic Party (PDP) patron Mufti Muhammad Sayeed while Soni was in the town. Mufti reportedly gave cold shoulder to the Congress’ proposals to enter into an alliance before the elections.
Congress insiders say most of the leaders voiced their resentment against the alliance with NC and suggested to part ways before the election bugle was blown. “The local leadership has very frankly expressed its views on coalition. I will put the suggestions before the Congress president,” Soni said at a Press conference.
“We still have so many months to go for Assembly elections. The coalition Government has done work and we expect will do more till elections. The final decision will be conveyed to you by our leadership,” she said.
