Former Maharashtra Chief Minister Ashok Chavan said here on Thursday that the Congress' organisational set-up had to be strengthened, steps needed to be taken immediately to boost the morale of the party cadres and people-friendly initiatives had to be expeditiously, if the party wanted to improve its
performance in the State Assembly polls scheduled to be held later this year.Chavan, who was among the only the two Congress candidates to have got elected to lok Sabha in the recent polls, said: "We have to assess the ground reality. We have won two seats, Nanded and Hingoli, but we have to look at the results in totality, we need to take steps now".
Talking to media persons at Tilak Bhavan where the State Congress began reviewing its performance in the lok Sabha polls, Chavan said:"The organisation has to be strengthened and morale of the workers needed to be boosted. People oriented decisions need to be expedited". Chavan, who had resigned as the chief minister on November 9 2010, following the expose of the Adarsh society scam, said he dedicated his Nanded win to the love and affection people in the district had for his father late S B Chavan. Admitting that the Congress' poor performance in lok Sabha polls was a cause of concern, Chavan said: "In the Assembly polls, party and leaders have to work extra hard and necessary changes will have to be made.”
