The anti-alliance faction of Bengal Pradesh Congress on Monday threw barbs at the “once mighty CPI(M)” for reaching such a pass that “they have today to appeal to the Congress publicly for allying with them in order to fight out the Trinamool Congress and the BJP.”
Former PCC president Dr Manas Bhunia on Monday attacked the CPI(M) for publicly appealing the Congress to form an alliance with the left instead of following the established norms. State CPI(M) secretary and politburo member Dr Suryakanto Mishra had on Sunday told a public rally that the Marxists were not averse to the idea of an alliance and that it deepened upon the Congress to come clean on the issue on “whether you want to come with us to throw out the BJP from the Centre and Trinamool from Bengal.”
While most State Congress leaders including the present PCC president Adhir Chowdhury, Abdul Mannan, OP Mishra openly welcomed Mishra’s speech and left it upon the high command for taking the final call Bhunia hit out at the CPI(M) wondering “do I have to believe that the Marxists have reached such a pass that they have to appeal to the Congress publicly for an alliance.”
He asked “does Dr Mishra who is also the Opposition leader not know that such alliances are not made in public rallies or how proposals for such alliances are made. If they are really serious about the alliance then Sitaram Yechury and Dr Mishra should approach our top leadership in Delhi.”
Incidentally leaders like Adhir Chowdhury, Mannan and OP Mishra have repeatedly gone on record saying regardless of what the higher leadership thinks there is an increasing tendency among the common man to come together irrespective of their colours. The Assembly elections in Bengal are likely to take place sometime in April and May this year.
