A day before the inauguration of the Gujarat Government's flagship biennial event —Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit, the State unit of Congress has given 'Gujarat bandh call’ on Saturday terming the Summit as a waste of tax payers' money.
The Congress has given statewide 'bandh call' barring four major cities —Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Rajkot and Surat on January 10, a day before the commencement of 7th edition of Vibrant Gujarat to be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. According to the Congress leaders, there was no need to spend crores of rupees when Gujarat's farmers are facing serious problems of low Minimum Support Price (MSP).
Gujarat Congress President said that his party had sought the permission to protest against Vibrant Gujarat on January 11 to 13, but the State administration denied as a result of it the Congress party has given a call for Gujarat bandh on Saturday barring four major cities. "We spared four cities to facilitate large numbers of NRIs, who are travelling to Gujarat in wake of Pravasi Bharatiya Divas. We don't want them to be stranded because of our party," said Modhvadia.
