Cong for probe into loya's case

Despite late Justice BH loya’s son ruling out any angle of suspicion over his father’s demise, the Congress on Monday reiterated its demand for a probe into the death of the CBI judge.

Congress spokesperson Abhishek Manu Singhvi demanded that a probe should be conducted within the ambit of the law.

“The country is demanding an inquiry into judge loya’s death. There is no harm if an inquiry is conducted impartially.  As a responsible party and citizen we have the right to call for an impartial, time-bound and independent probe by Supreme Court,” Singhvi who is also a Rajya Sabha member, said.

Anuj loya, the son of Judge loya, on Sunday requested that his family should not be harassed by NGOs and politicians over the death of his father. Addressing media persons, he said that though he had doubts about his father’s death earlier, he no longer suspects the manner in which he died. The 48-year-old judge was hearing the Sohrabuddin Sheikh encounter case at the time when BJP chief Amit Shah was one of the accused.

listing out the various statements made over time by members of Justice loya’s family, Singhvi said there are various contradictory statements regarding his death and hence there are reasons enough for a probe. “We are not politicising Justice loya’s death. There must be a high-court monitored probe into his death. The inquiry should be held by the Supreme Court itself. Our demand is not related to the rift in the SC. An independent time-bound probe is necessary to bring out the truth in the case,” Singhvi said at AICC press conference.
