Cong-BSP pact dream shattered as Rahul wants to go it alone in UP

Preetam Srivastava

After witnessing almost total rout in the last Assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh, majority of Congress Members of Parliament were advocating pre-poll alliance with the Bahujan Samaj Party as they were seeing it as a last hope of sailing through the battle of ballots after riding on shoulders of “blue brigade”.

Interestingly, the BSP is also reportedly not against any such proposal but they wanted that the Congress should also share a good quota of seats with them in adjoining Hindi speaking States as well as in some Parts of South. The BSP is said to be eager, as by giving few seats to the Congress in UP, they could get a good share in other States where at present they have very little presence.

However, sources said that  the dreams of Congress MPs being better placed in the coming Parliament elections has been shattered as Congress Yuvraj, Rahul wanted to fight it alone without any alliance. Interestingly, Rahul was against alliance with any other parties and in a close-door meeting, he even tried to convince the leaders in Maharastra that they should be ready to fight single handedly without any alliance with Sharad Pawar-led Nationalist Congress Party (NCP).

Sources said that after assessing the ground realities and feeling the public nerves against the Congress particularly due to rising prices of all commodities including fuel and lPG as well as charges of corruption, most of the Congress MPs, who were already ensured a ticket for next Parliament elections from the same seat which they represents at present, were probing that how they could improve their chances of re-electing to the lok Sabha.
