An 18-year-old son of serving Army Colonel in the Indian Army died on Tuesday morning.
Deceased was identified as Navdeep Singh, had allegedly shot himself with a service revolver of his father, Colonel Balbir Singh inside his home on May 7 as he was depressed over his rank in an JEE (mains) entrance examination. He was admitted to the Army Research and Referral Hospital and on Tuesday morning, he succumbed to his injuries.

Police said Navdeep was preparing for JEE (mains), a joint entrance test for admission in engineering colleges including the IIT’s and NIT’s across the country. “The incident came to light on May 7 when the victim’s father found his son lying in a pool of blood inside the bathroom. A PCR call was made around 8 am and the victim was taken to nearby hospital where he was put on ventilator,” a senior police officer said.
Preliminary investigation revealed that Navdeep who was expecting a rank somewhere around 2,000, scored much low. His rank was around 50,000, which depressed him.
“In the intervening night of May 6 and 7, the victim took his father’s service revolver and shot himself in the temple inside his bathroom,” the officer added.
