Chief Minister Hemant Soren will virtually inaugurate a hi-tech public library and knowledge centre at the old Dumka Collectorate on October 29, transforming a disused auditorium into a modern learning facility for students and competitive examination aspirants.

Developed jointly by the Jharkhand IAS Officers’ Wives Association (JIASOWA) and the Dumka district administration, the centre aims to improve access to educational resources, digital learning and skill development in the Santhal Pargana region.

The facility can accommodate more than 100 readers at a time and offers books on literature, science, philosophy and history, along with study materials and current affairs journals for civil services and other competitive examinations. It has modern workstations, bean-bag seating, high-speed Wi-Fi and purified drinking water.

A key feature is its digital learning laboratory, equipped with interactive LED screens to provide access to live and recorded classes from leading national coaching platforms through institutional subscriptions. The initiative is expected to benefit students who cannot afford to travel to metropolitan centres for specialised coaching.

The centre also has dedicated computer and laptop terminals to help users develop digital skills, including computer programming and the use of artificial intelligence tools and utility software.

Besides competitive examination candidates, the facility is intended to serve school students, researchers and senior citizens, providing a common space for reading, learning and accessing digital resources.

The project seeks to put unused public infrastructure to productive use while expanding educational opportunities for young people in Dumka and adjoining areas. Its long-term impact will depend on regular maintenance, the availability of updated learning resources and effective management.
