While launching the School Chalo Abhiyaan, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has written to all people’s representatives, from members of Parliament to panchayats, seeking their co-operation in ensuring that children go to school.
“Our aim is to ensure that hundred per cent children of the state go to school. The participation of elected members is mandatory for the success of this campaign,” Yogi has said in his letter, the details of which were released to the media on Wednesday.
The School Chalo Campaign Abhiyaan will start from April 2 and continue up to April 30.
In his letter, Yogi has said that many children are still not going to school despite state-run schools providing free education to them and this is creating problems in the development of the state.
“Our aim should be to ensure that all children between the age of 6 and 14 years go to school regularly,” the Chief Minister said.
“We cannot achieve this goal without the support of people’s representatives. They can educate parents of children, including those who have dropped out, about the virtues of education. The Constitution has made free education mandatory for children up to 16 years. We should honour this spirit of the Indian Constitution,” Yogi said.
The Chief Minister reviewed the School Chalo Campaign through video conferencing and interacted with divisional commissioners, district magistrates, district inspectors of school and basic shiksha adhikaris of different districts and asked them to ensure that children attended schools.
He also asked officers to ensure that the students got proper uniforms and nutritious food as mid-day meal.
“In case of problems the district officials should get in touch with higher officials immediately,” Yogi said.
