Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has written a formal letter to Union Railway Minister Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw, requesting the renaming of the historic Old Delhi Railway Station. In the letter dated June 19, the Chief Minister has proposed that the station be renamed as “Maharaja Agrasen Railway Station” in honour of the legendary king and social reformer, Maharaja Agrasen.

In her letter, CM Gupta highlighted the immense contributions of Maharaja Agrasen to India’s socio-economic development, particularly in Delhi. She described him as a revered historical figure who symbolised social justice, economic foresight, and community welfare. She mentioned that Maharaja Agrasen’s legacy continues to inspire countless followers and descendants who play a key role in shaping Delhi’s cultural and economic identity.

The Chief Minister noted that renaming the station would serve as a meaningful tribute to Maharaja Agrasen’s enduring legacy. “It would deeply resonate with the sentiments of millions of Delhi residents who hold him in the highest esteem,” she wrote.

Emphasizing the historical and emotional value of the proposal, CM Gupta appealed for the Railway Minister’s kind consideration and personal intervention to facilitate a favourable and speedy decision on the matter. She concluded the letter by expressing her gratitude for the Ministry's attention to the request.

The Old Delhi Railway Station, originally known as Delhi Junction, is one of the oldest and busiest railway hubs in the country.
