The West Bengal BJP Government had charted a plan to transform the State from the present Bhatta Nirbhar (dole-dependent) to Atma Nirbhar (self-reliant) region, Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari on Wednesday said, adding that a designated group of ministers had submitted a draft industrial policy covering the future industrial roadmap and land policy that would be unveiled soon for the benefit of prospective investors.
Speaking at the inauguration of a Rs 6,000 crore chemical complex by AdPerMa Private Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of Haldia Petrochemicals Limited, the Chief Minister said his Government was determined to create a business-friendly climate that militant trade unionism and flawed policies of the preceding Left and Trinamool Congress Governments had destroyed.
“We are determined to bring back the healthy industrial climate” for which a new industrial policy detailing investment incentives, land allocation and power tariff plans would be unveiled before Diwali, the Chief Minister said.
“We will not do a few things that the previous governments did,” he said, accusing the Marxist and the Mamata Banerjee governments. “Trade unions, strikes and assault on the management led to the closure of 50,000 industries in Bengal,” he said, adding, “we are determined to stop this and create the best investment climate in the State.”
Speaking after the inauguration of the chemical plant, he said the new phenol acetone facility would end India’s dependence on imports. “I am immensely pleased and proud to inaugurate India’s largest integrated phenol and acetone plant by... this state-of-the-art facility will open new horizons for industrial growth and employment generation across the State,” Adhikari said, reminding how it would provide strength to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Atma Nirbhar Bharat initiative besides navigating Bengal to economic self-reliance.
“My Government remained steadfast in its commitment to the comprehensive development of Bengal, the construction of modern infrastructure and the advancement of Industrialization,” he said, laying stress on an economic ecosystem that revolved on self-reliance rather than economic doles.
The Chief Minister also announced that a Pepsi manufacturing plant and a medical equipment manufacturing unit would come up around Haldia. The projects were likely to benefit the people of Bengal in general, and the residents of Nandigram in particular, immensely.
