Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) founder Abhijeet Dipke was placed under preventive arrest by Delhi Police on Saturday, while All India Students’ Association (AISA) president Neha Bora was released following their detention during protests in the national capital.

Police said Bora was released after completing the required formalities under Section 65 of the Delhi Police Act. Dipke was arrested under Sections 126 and 170 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) over apprehensions of a breach of peace. He is scheduled to be produced before a Special Executive Magistrate (SEM).

The two were detained on Friday as protesters gathered in central Delhi for CJP’s ‘Lehra Do Tiranga’ march at Connaught Place. Dipke had called for the march to demand the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.

After her release, Bora criticised the detentions, alleging they were intended to intimidate protesters and discourage people from demanding accountability. She called for Dipke and other detained protesters to be released.

CJP had earlier raised concerns about Dipke’s whereabouts, saying its members and lawyers had been unable to contact him after he was detained. Delhi Police said around 150 people were detained during Friday’s protests to maintain law and order and ensure smooth traffic movement.
