In the backdrop of a recent Milan court ruling pointing out that a huge bribe was paid to several top Congress leaders, including party president Sonia Gandhi, CBI director Anil Sinha on Wednesday briefed Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the progress of the investigation by the agency into the `3,600 crore kickbacks in the procurement of 12 VVIP helicopters.

“The CBI Director briefed the Prime Minister on the progress made by the agency in the chopper deal payoffs and also the future course of action being planned in the wake of Milan Court judgment,” Government sources said.

CBI is under the administrative control of the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) headed by the Prime Minister.

In March 2013, the CBI had booked former IAF chief SP Tyagi along with 13 others including his three cousins, European middlemen and six companies in the scam.

CBI probe has revealed that Tyagi had approved certain changes in the tender specifications to allegedly swing the deal in favour of the Anglo-Italian firm AugustaWestland.

Presently, the agency is examining the judgment of the Milan Court of Appeals  equivalent to an Indian high court  to decide on the further course of action

The agency is also seeking legal opinion to proceed further in the case, a CBI official said.
