PNS

The Kerala Police have taken into custody one person in a case pertaining to the alleged gangrape of a 14-year-old actress in Kollam district where a 62-year-old man was arrested three days back for subjecting his 10-year-old granddaughter to continuous and brutal sexual assault, leading to the victim’s mysterious death.

The person held for raping the child actress belonged to Mayyanad in the district and was said to be the son of a prominent political leader of the region. The girl was allegedly gangraped by a group of five men at the

house of a friend of theirs after she was lured into their trap by a TV serial actress who promised her the opportunity to act in a television serial.

Allegations have already come up that the girl, who had acted in two short films, had lodged her complaint about her ordeal on March 18 but the police had refused to take action initially allegedly because of political interference. The man was taken into custody after the victim approached the police again on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, the police would re-investigate the death of a 14-year-old boy in Kundara in 2010, which had so far been considered as a case of suicide, on the basis of a complaint from the boy’s mother that her son was actually murdered by Victor Daniel alias Njandu (crab) Vijayan, who was arrested for raping his own granddaughter, and his son.

According to the complaint lodged by the dead boy’s mother with the Superintendent of Police (Rural, Kollam), Victor Daniel had reached her house with the intention of assaulting her daughter. In her complaint, the mother said that a complaint was filed with the police regarding this in 2010 itself but no action was taken on it.

The boy was found hanging inside his house on June 17, 2010. His mother and sister said that the police had reached their house 19 days after the death.
