The new Government calendar-2015 dons a new avatar. For the first time it has also been launched as a mobile phone application besides the conventional version. Minister of Information & Broadcasting Arun Jaitley, who released it on Wednesday, said it is a convergence of Government's 'Swachchh Bharat Abhiyan' and 'Digital India'.
The calendar with its overriding theme of 'Clean Green India', has been published by the Department of Audio Visual Publicity (DAVP). It has teamed up with the National Informatics Centre (NIC) for the free app version for smart phone users. The digital calendar will have various other information related to the latest happenings in the Government, various programmes, press-releases of Press Information Bureau, national holidays amongst others. Addressing the occasion, Jaitley said, "I am positive of the fact that wherever the calendar will be displayed, it will send out a message in the favour of 'Swachchh Bharat'. This calendar is going to make important contributions in furthering the social cause, emphasised by the objectives of Digital India."
"The digital mode changes the concept of the calendar, you need not buy a calendar," Jaitley said, adding that if technology continues to progress like this then "instead of a year calendar we will get it for a 'yug' (century)". "No one can defy technology. It is useful to society... We are at a mid-path. DAVP promotes government programmes and also social objectives. I feel in the future, conventional and futuristic calendar will be taken forward by DAVP," said the Minister.
