A day after he ordered an inquiry into the New Maharashtra Sadan force-feeding incident by Chief Secretary JS Saharia, Maharashtra CM Prithviraj Chavan on Thursday described the July 17 incident as a “blot” on the glorious traditions of Maharashtra.

Talking to mediapersons in Pune, Chavan said: “The full truth behind the new Maharashtra Sadan incident has not come to light yet…When the State Government floated tenders for catering services at the new Maharashtra Sadan, there were no bidders. It was then that the management requested the Railways to make available catering services to the occupants of Sadan through IRCTC.”

Even we have received complaints about the poor quality of food served by the IRCTC at the Sadan. Since we have no other alternative, we are continuing the IRCTC’s catering services”.

“Whatever happened at the new Maharashtra Sadan is a blot on the glorious traditions of Maharashtra. The Delhi police are inquiring into the incident. lok Sabha Speaker will take action against those found guilty in the incident,” the chief minister said.
