Chandy rules out probe into PWD graft charge

VR Jayaraj

Kerala’s Congress Chief Minister Oommen Chandy on Wednesday ruled out any kind of probe into the allegation of corruption raised in the State Assembly by former Minister KB Ganesh Kumar, an MlA of the ruling UDF, against the office of Public Works Minister VK Ibrahim Kunju of the Muslim league.

Citing technical reasons and defending Kunju and the Public Works Ministry, Chandy said in the House that the allegation leveled by Ganesh Kumar was unclear and that he had not given the charge in writing as required by the rules. He said no probe could be held into the allegation as Ganesh Kumar had raised it in the House in violation of the rules.

However, the Chief Minister was unable to offer a proper reply to a question posed by Opposition leader VS Achuthanandan whether Ganesh Kumar’s claim that he had given in writing the allegations of corruption against the offices of two Ministers as back as in May last was true. Chandy effectively evaded the question saying this had not come to his notice.

Former Forest minister and Kerala Congress (B) MlA Ganesh Kumar had on Tuesday said in the Assembly that the office of Minister Kunju was a tent of corruption and three of his personal staff members were indulging in corrupt practices in matters related to State administration.
