Centre's digital locker order challenged in SC

PNS
The big ticket announcement on Digital locker facility of the Centre has been challenged in the Supreme Court as it makes Aadhaar card mandatory for registration in clear violation of the Court order.A petitioner by the name Sudhir Yadav has approached Court reminding it of a September 23, 2013 order placing bar on States and Centre to make Aadhaar card mandatory for any services or schemes.
Since the Court is examining the validity of Aadhaar card on grounds that it posed a serious threat to safety and privacy of citizens, the interim order ensured that no citizen must be put to any disadvantage for not possessing the card. The Digital locker facility, an initiative of Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, allows citizens to store their documents online at a secure destination by opening a Digital locker account.
