The Central Government is mooting to change the criteria for considering titled land for availing loans in States like Nagaland and Meghalaya. Union Minister for Urban Development, Housing, Urban Poverty Alleviation, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, M Venkaiah Naidu said this on Tuesday while addressing a Press conference in Guwahati. Naidu was on a two-day visit to Assam to review the implementation of different schemes under the departments in the Northeastern States.
“lands in Nagaland and Meghalaya does not belong to the State but belongs to communities. So there is no concept to titled lands. Unless land is titled against an individual, it is difficult to get loans from the banks as the banks have their own criterian of sanctioning loans,” said the Minister while adding that he would take up the matter with the Finance Ministry so that the problem could be eased for people in these two States.
“It is a peculiar problem in Nagaland and Meghalaya. I'll go back to Delhi and take up the matter with the Finance Ministry. If the community can give a certificate identifying the beneficiary, that should suffice for availing the loans," he said.
The Union Minister further informed that the BJP led NDA government is also planning to set up a film institute Arunachal Pradesh, which will start from a temporary campus with an introduction of 10 week short term course from May 15 this year.
He said that the institute to be set up at Itanagar will mainly focus on introducing North East Students to the medium of cinema and film making as a career and enrich their skills in the domain. The Minister further said that the Central Government has proposed Rs200 crore for the institute, which is being setup under the aegis of Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute.
“The Government has also decided to launch a dedicated Doordarshan channel —ArunPrabha from Arunachal Pradesh by August this year with the objective to seamless—ly integrate NE and showcase its rich culture to the rest of the country. The focus will be on youth with contemporary entertainment and informative shows,” he said.
