Central Govt-run hospitals to have khadi products soon

PNS

Khadi products may soon find their way into Central Government-run hospitals in the country. The Union Health Ministry has set up a high-level committee to look into how the indigenous natural fabric can be promoted in its hospitals.

The setting up of the panel followed a meeting between Chairman of Khadi and Village Industries Commission VK Saxena and Union Health Minister JP Nadda, last week. During the meeting, Saxena made a request for measures to promote the use of Khadi in the hospitals run by the Central Ministry, said a senior official from the KVIC.

Headed by Special Director General, Directorate General of Health Services, BD Athani, the panel has members including director of All India Institute of Medical Sciences, medical superintendents of Safdarjung Hospital and Ram Manohar lohia Hospital and director of lady Hardinge Medical College and associated hospitals.

When asked about the agenda of the meeting, Athani said that panel members were yet to hold the first meeting to chalk out the plans. The panel will submit its recommendations and suggestions in a time bound manner, the official added.
