CBI on Friday issued a fresh summons to former Finance Minister P Chidambaram to appear on June 6 for questioning in connection with the INX Media bribery case. He is also summoned by the Enforcement Directorate on June 5 in connection with the Aircel-Maxis scam.

Apart from alleged gross violations in the FIPB rules, Chidambaram’s son Karti was caught by CBI and ED for Rs 5 crore bribe in INX Media case and two lakh dollar bribe in Aircel-Maxis case. In INX Media case, Karti is out on bail after 23 days of imprisonment following his arrest by the CBI. The ED has attached his bank accounts worth around Rs 1.5 crore in Aircel-Maxis case.

In INX Media case, other accused and media promoters Peter and Indrani Mukerjeas have already deposed to agencies about the kickbacks given to Karti and Chidambaram. ED is also expected to soon summon Chidambaram in this case. CBI has already taken father and son’s statements in Aircel-Maxis cases and both agencies are expected to file Chargesheets soon.

Fearing a possible arrest for the past few days Chidambaram was shutting between trial court to High Court to get anticipatory bails as soon as the agencies served him notice to appear. The Courts have provided interim protection to him but the prosecutors have told the courts that they have issued summons only to question him.
