CBI may seek list of missing files from Coal Ministry, again

PNS

The CBI is likely to send a reminder to the Coal Ministry seeking a list of the missing files so that an inquiry or a regular case could be registered to probe the matter.

CBI sources said the Coal Ministry has neither furnished a formal complaint nor provided any list of the missing files and the agency cannot register a case on its own.

The CBI on its part is reconciling the claims of Coal Ministry on the status report furnished by the latter on the files requisitioned by the agency.

Officials said the examination of the status report will be completed soon. Following consolidation of the missing files, the agency is likely to furnish a point-by-point clarification on files yet to be received by it and ask for a list of the missing documents from the Coal Ministry.

Officials of the CA-I Section of the Coal Ministry will come under the scanner as and when the investigation into the missing files begins, the sources said. CA-I Section was responsible for block allocations during 2006-09.

The Supreme Court had in its order on August 29 directed the Coal Ministry to file a report with the CBI for appropriate inquiry/ investigation of the files that are missing or untraceable. However, the Ministry on Monday submitted a status report on the files that have been located after the

SC order.
