CBI can't be impartial: TMC

Even as writer-activist Mahasweta Devi on Monday demanded CBI inquiry into the Saradha case saying the Government should not come in the way of an impartial probe, the Bengal Government attacked the Opposition Congress and the left as also the Central agency questioning its credibility citing the coalgate.

While Devi, the Magsaysay award winning writer and a firm supporter of Mamata Banerjee, wondered why the Government was not ordering a CBI probe “as truth should be before the people as it involves the interest of the poorest”, senior Trinamool leader and Bengal Industry Minister Partho Chatterjee questioned the credibility of the CBI asking “how can it provide an impartial probe when we can all see its performance in the coal scam.”

Cornered as never before over his Government’s alleged involvement in the chit fund scam and a loud demand for a CBI probe in its aftermath, Chatterjee roared back saying “We can see the CBI’s neutrality in the past few days. Where the Ministers change the CBI reports to be filed before the court how we can repose our faith in the agency’s neutrality.”

Taking the left Front head on, Chatterjee said, “they should go into hibernation for at least 50 years before descending on the streets as the people would not listen to them.”

“Then CM Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee was against a CBI probe into the Nandigram and Netai mass killing cases. Now he is asking for a CBI probe. What credibility has he gotIJ”

The Marxists had ruined Bengal leaving a heap of burden of `2 lakh crore, he said. “Now when Mamata Banerjee is developing it they are trying to put all kinds of road block. This is being watched by the people of the State.”
