The Hyderabad Police on Friday refused to present Obulesh, the prime suspect in the attempted abduction case of an industrialist, before the media.

Confirming former Greyhounds constable Obulesh’s arrest, Hyderabad Police Commissioner Anurag Sharma said that as per the new guidelines of the Supreme Court he cannot be produced before the media. “It will create problems in future investigation including the identification parade if he was produced before the media or if his photo was shown on television,” he said.

Sharma said that the accused would be produced before the court.Earlier, the Task Force of Hyderabad Police questioned Obulesh’s parents Michael and Tirumalamma in Porumamela police station of the Kadapa district. Their statements have been recorded.Obulesh was nabbed within hours of his attempt to kidnap Aurobindo Pharma vice-chairman Nityananda Reddy from the KBR National Park in Hyderabad on Wednesday morning at the point of a stolen AK-47 rifle.

The investigations in the matter also revealed that while the AK-47 rifle was stolen from the Greyhounds Camp in the city, the concerned officials had lodged a complaint of the missing rifle. The complaint of theft could have landed the officials concerned in trouble, sources said.Briefing the media about the attempt on the life of Nityanand Reddy, Anurag Sharma said that Obulesh had attempted to kidnap Reddy in a meticulously planned manner.

Obulesh had spent the night at the KBR Park before attempting to abduct the industrialist. "He carried out reconnaissance of the park and kept an eye on the big businessmen coming here,” he said. When his attempt was foiled by an alert Nityananda Reddy, by pushing away the AK-47 rifle which forced the assailant to run away, Obulesh first escaped towards Ameerpet and from there he reached the Imlibun police station to board a bus to Kurnool.
