Calcutta HC orders another CBI probe

PNS

In yet another embarrassment for the Bengal Government the Calcutta High Court on Monday directed a CBI probe into the alleged corruption in the recruitment of Group D staff by the School Service Commission.

Passing a strict order Justice Abhijit directed the CBI to investigate into the recommendation-based recruitment of 25 Group D staff and place a report by December 21. The probe could also take into its ambit the recruitment of another 500 employees who too had allegedly been appointed following recruitments from some shady quarters.

Earlier the West Bengal Board of Secondary Education in its affidavit told the High Court that it has provided appointment letters to the said employees only upon the recommendations of SSC.

Speaking on the order senior counsel and CPI(M) MP Bikash Ranjan Bhattacharya said that “this is only a preliminary probe following which the Court may decide on future course of action … this will only throw light on the people who had issued the recommendation letters from behind the curtains … if there is any monetary exchange in issuing such letters then that will also be exposed.”

The salary of the 25 staff has been stopped by the High Court.
