'Cabinet reshuffle in Assam after Maha, Haryana poll results'

Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi has hinted at a probable reshuffle in his Cabinet and said that he would meet the party high command in New Delhi after the results of Maharastra and Haryana elections are declared.

Gogoi told this to newsmen on Wednesday while kicking off the ‘Pariskar Aru Seuj Asom Sajagota Abhijan’ (Cleanliness and Green Assam Awareness Campaign) in Guwahati. “I’ll go to New Delhi over the issue after the results of Maharastra and Haryana elections are declared,” Gogoi said.

last week in Jorhat, Gogoi had said that he is going to discuss ‘the matter with the party high command’ soon, as it requires the high command’s approval. “Some ministries will be reshuffled. New faces will also be included,” Gogoi said in Jorhat last week.

The statement of Gogoi on Wednesday, however, assumes significance as senior Congress leader in Assam and MlA from Aamguri legislative Assembly constituency Anjan Dutta had already met senior All India Congress Committee (AICC) leaders including Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi.

“I have met Sonia Gandhi yesterday and also met Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday. I have informed the AICC leaders about the various developments in Assam pertaining to the party. I have also suggested them about the reshuffle in the cabinet and in the ranks and files of the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC),” said Dutta after his meeting.

Dutta is expected to meet AICC observer for Assam CP. Joshi on Thursday. Meanwhile, the Chief Minister has also clarified that he is not following in the footsteps of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Clean Assam Campaign.

“Inspired by Mahatma Gandhiji, I joined Kalyani Sangha when I was a school student way back in 1951 and swept the Sweepers’ Colony in Jorhat. When I became the Chief Minister, I wielded the broom and swept the streets of Guwahati during the Clean Guwahati Campaign in 2012,” he said.
