A court in Thiruvanant-
hapuram on Monday sentenced notorious criminal Devinder Singh. aka Bunty Chor (44), to ten-year rigorous imprisonment in a case pertaining to the burglary at a high security house of an NRI in
the Kerala capital four years ago. The court, which also slapped a fine of `20,000 on Bunty, had pronounced him guilty on April 12.
Agreeing with the pros-
ecution, the Additional Sessions Court-II in Thiruvananth-
apuram observed that Bunty was a habitual criminal. He admitted in the Court that he had committed the crime of which he had been accused. He will have to undergo additional imprisonment for three mon-
ths if he fails to pay the fine.
The Court had found him guilty of house-breaking, burglary and destruction of evidence in the case of theft at Thiruvananthapuram that took place on January 21, 2013. The Kerala Police had arrested him from a hotel in Pune three days after the burglary. As Bunty has been in jail for the past four years, he will have to spend only six more years in prison.
The prosecution had prayed to the court to award maximum possible punishment to Bunty for the charges slapped on him as he was a habitual criminal. It had submitted a fresh char-
gesheet in the case as per the Court’s direction in the context of its plea to declare him as a habitual criminal. The court had on April 12 accepted the prosecution’s argument that the accused had stolen a luxury car, cell phone, electronic applian-
ces and other things from the house in Thiruvananthapuram.
