Eight people drowned in the Ganga on Saturday during Buddha Purnima Snan in Badaun and Aligarh districts. A report from Badaun, quoting police sources said that four youth, three of Badaun and one from Rajasthan drowned near Kanchala Ghat while bathing.
The deceased were identified as Aman (20), Guddu (19), Sudhi (19), all of Badaun and Chintu (22) of Karoli district in Rajasthan.
After much effort, the bodies of the youth were fished out by the divers.
In a similar incident in Aligarh, police said, eight people were feared drowned during bathing but four were saved by the boatmen. The identity of the four drowned is yet to be known and their bodies were yet to be recovered.
