Playing the Dalit card, State BJP president Keshav Prasad Maurya said that parties like Samajwadi Party and Bahujan Samaj Party have used the community as vote banks and their love for Dalits was nothing but an eye wash.
Maurya was reacting to cases of atrocities against Dalits reported from Mainpuri and lucknow. “Why did the SP Government not extend help to the victimised Dalit family members in MainpuriIJ” asked the BJP leader in a statement issued in lucknow on Monday.
“Even Mayawati, the self-proclaimed messiah of Dalits, has not sent a fact-finding team to Bevar in Mainpuri. She had sent a team to Una in Gujarat but surprisingly, she is silent on continued atrocities against Dalits and Most Backward Caste people by upper castes,” Maurya said.
The State BJP president said that parties like BSP and SP were using Dalit votes to return to power. “They have used them as political weapons but have done nothing to ameliorate their sufferings. It is only the BJP which works for the uplift of people of all caste and creed without any prejudice,” Maurya stressed.
Th leader said, “The Opposition parties have been spreading canards against us and is trying to malign the party’s image. But they will not succeed in their campaign,” he said.
