BSF steps up vigil along Border

Ahead of the peak winter season, the Border Security Force (BSF) has beefed up its defences and enhanced patrolling along the vulnerable patches along the International Border to prevent any fresh terror strike in the region.

A high-level security audit of vital security installations, including various Army camps along the Jammu-Pathankot highway and police station buildings in the border area has also been ordered in the wake of fresh attack on an army camp in Tangdhar area of North Kashmir’s Kupwara district.

To plug the traditional infiltration routes, the BSF has also activated its Border winter management strategy using integrated electronic surveillance along the International Border.

Inspector General BSF, Jammu frontier, Rakesh Sharma on Thursday told reporters at BSF headquarters in Paloura, “According to various Intelligence reports and minute to minute monitoring of activities of forward area of Pakistan approximately 60-70 terrorists of leT, JeM, HM are camping across different launch pads to infiltrate inside the Indian territory.”

There are reports that a group of militants (eight to ten) may try to enter the Indian territory from the vulnerable points but our troops are maintaining all vigil and are on alert, he said, adding that movement of militants was seen on certain occasions across the border but the security grid is robust to foil all their nefarious designs.

“Movement of Hafiz Saeed across International Border is a clear indication that he is being backed by the Pakistan Rangers and their Army,” he said, adding that no Army or force can allow anything wrong to happen in their area of responsibility but without their will, his movement across the border is a clear indication that he has all support from the Pakistani agencies. Sharma said it has also been reported in the past and in some of the recent reports as well that Chief of Jamaat-Ud-Dawa (JuD) Hafiz Mohd Saeed, mastermind of Mumbai terror attacks, has been motivating trained militant cadre to carry out terror strikes inside the Indian territory after they are launched inside the Indian territory.

He said if preachers would continue to motivate them to launch terror strikes, the infiltration attempts are bound to increase across the border.

Sharma said even Pakistani Rangers and Army is supporting Hafiz Saeed and allowing him free movement in their area of their jurisdiction.

Sharma said, “We have also observed that Pakistani Intelligence agencies have been imparting training to criminals and convicted jail inmates in the training camps to launch terror strikes on the Indian soil.”

Commenting on the idea of installing smart fencing to check ingress, IG BSF said, at this stage only initial trials are being conducted and it is yet to implemented on the ground zero.
