BSF detects cross border tunnel

The Border Security Force (BSF) has once again detected a 20-feet-long and 2.5 x 2.5 ft deep and wide cross border tunnel along the International border in Ramgarh sector of Samba in Jammu frontier. This is the third tunnel which has been detected by the BSF jawans in the last one year in the region.

According to a senior BSF officer of Jammu frontier, “One end of the tunnel originated towards the Pakistan side of the International border and was inching closer to the border fence when it was detected by the BSF jawans late on Monday afternoon”.

The coordinates of the cross border tunnel were  located close to one of the forward posts of Pak rangers in the Ramgarh sector.

According to BSF, “Pak rangers post is located within 300 metres radius from the location of the cross border tunnel.” “Connivance of Pak rangers in facilitating digging of cross border tunnel to help infiltrators sneak inside the Indian territory cannot be ruled out”, BSF officers claimed.

In addition an observation tower used by the Pak rangers to keep a tight vigil inside the Indian territory was also located near the tunnel site.

DIG BSF, Jammu frontier Dharmendr Pareek told reporters here at BSF headquarters on Tuesday, “ the tunnel could have been used by the heavily armed infiltrators to sneak inside the Indian territory but was detected by the alert BSF jawans during  periodic scanning of the area”.

He said in comparison to India the general area towards the Pakistan side is thickly vegetated and there is wild growth of grass. He said Pak rangers have constructed a ditch cum band on their side of the border and have planted trees on the sand mound.

“Those involved in digging of these tunnels easily hide behind the wild growth of grass and thick vegetation as Pakistan has refused to clear the area despite persistent follow up and periodic reminders,” the BSF officer said.

Pakistan’s game plan was earlier exposed in March 2016 and later in November 2016 when  BSF had exposed their nefarious designs of digging cross border tunnels to infiltrate inside the Indian territory.

Referring to concentration of heavily armed infiltrators towards the Pakistan side of the International Border DIG Dharmendra Pareek said, “We are receiving regular inputs about the presence of terrorists in Pakistan border villages desperately looking for infiltration into Indian territory”. He said BSF troops are extremely vigilant and fully prepared to foil/deal any such emerging threats/nefarious design.
