Ahead of the peak winter months, senior army and police officers, part of the security grid in Jammu and Kashmir, on Monday brainstormed to explore the feasibility of recalibrating their ground strategy to check rising incidents of infiltration from across the line of control with newly appointed DGP Jammu and Kashmir Police RR Swain and GoC-in-C Northern Command headquarters Lt-Gen Upendra Dwivedi.
The meeting was convened in the Udhampur-based Northern Command headquarters.
After assuming charge as DGP, RR Swain interacted with the senior army officers led by Lt-Gen Upendra Dwivedi for the first time.
According to the statement issued by the Northern Command headquarters on X (previously Twitter), “Lt Gen Upendra Dwivedi, Army Cdr NC, interacted with RR Swain, director general of police, Jammu and Kashmir, to discuss enhanced coordination between the forces, plans for zero tolerance to terror and the security and administrative arrangements amid upcoming winters.”
The statement further said the Indian Army and the Jammu and Kashmir Police are committed to bolstering the safety and security of the Union Territory.
It has been observed since the beginning of the winter season that regular attempts are being made from across the line of control to push small groups of heavily armed infiltrators inside the Indian territory.
So far over 40 infiltrators have been eliminated this year while attempting to infiltrate.
Five terrorists were neutralised in the Macchal sector of North Kashmir’s Kupwara district on October 26 and two infiltrators each were gunned down in the Uri sector of Baramulla on October 22 and November 15.
Attempts are on to push these small groups via the Rajouri and Poonch sectors as well.
The security forces, maintaining high alert in the region, are regularly carrying out cordon and search operations to prevent any strike by these infiltrating groups of terrorists on any security installation in the region.
Around one dozen terrorists were neutralized in the month of June 2023 in different anti-terrorist operations in Kashmir Valley.
