Jagannath Sarkar the BJP MP from Ranaghat in Nadia district of Bengal had a providential escape on Saturday evening when a bomb hurled at him missed his vehicle by a few metres, State BJP sources said.

The incident took place near Mohanpur police outpost off Haringhata township while he was returning from Kalyani town where he had gone to watch a movie.

"I was returning via NH 34 from Kalyani after watching a movie in the evening ... Suddenly there was a blast behind my vehicle with a flash," the MP said pointing fingers at the ruling Trinamool Congress goons.

The place of alleged attack is about 55 km from Kolkata.

The incident took place around 8.15 pm, he said alleging similar attacks had taken place earlier also.

"I am sure it was done by Trinamool," he said before lodging a complaint at local Mohanpur police station.

Attacking the deteriorating law and order situation of the State, Bengal BJP president Sukanto Majumdar said, "if this happens to anP then what security do you expect for a common party man."

He said that the TMC leadership was trying to frighten him into joining that party. "Earlier they haton several occasions tried to get him to join the TMC ... But as he refused they are attempting to frighten him ... But he will not submit to their evil designs," he said.

The TMC leadership however rejected such allegations saying, "the Trinamool does not believe in politics of violence ...already we will win Ranaghat two years hence ... So why should the party take such steps."

The Saturday's incident takes place within a week after two municipal councillors of TMC and Congress being shot dead at Panihati and Purulia respectively.
