Banaras Locomotive Works (BLW) has created a history by producing the highest ever monthly electric locomotives in June this year when in just 25 working days of the month, it has manufactured 51 electric locomotives.

Praising the efforts of BLW personnel, showing their dedication, hard work and efficiency, the General Manager (GM) Basudev Panda flagged off 51st electric locomotive WAG9 from New Loco Test Shop in the presence of officers and employees here on Friday.

Earlier, in December 2021, the record was created by producing the highest monthly production of 45 electric locomotives whereas in the month of June it has crossed its own record by manufacturing 51 locomotives.

“This is a historical record of BLW. This record was achieved during the month of June as a result of excellent shop floor planning for better work management and uninterrupted material availability,” said the GM adding that the BLW is moving forward to supply electric locomotives in step with the electrification expansion of Indian Railways.

He also greeted the BLW employees and officers for accepting the challenges, acquired new skills and reorganised the planning process for the production of shop floors, machines, jigs and fixtures, and electric locomotives. “As a result of this process, a record production of 51 electric locomotives was achieved in just one month, while diesel locomotives are also manufactured from this assembly line for export and non-railway customers,” said Panda.

He said that the BLW is aware of the multi-pronged work of the Ministry of Railways, which includes reducing fuel cost, carbon footprint and dependence on fuel imports as well as increasing hauling capacity and average speed of trains.

Dedicated team BLW under the leadership of GM Basudev Panda scaled new heights and will be seen as a world class brand soon. The GM said that this achievement of BLW is historic in steering the Indian economy towards 'Atmanirbhar Bharat' as 98 percent indigenous materials have been used in electric locomotive production. This is helping the MSME and domestic manufacturing sector in a big way, the GM said, congratulating the officers and employees for this achievement.

On the occasion Principal Chief Material Manager (PCMM)  Rajneesh Gupta, Principal Chief Mechanical Engineer (PCME) Prabir Kumar Saha, Principal Financial Advisor (PFA) Amar Kumar Sinha, Principal Chief Engineer (PCE) Binod Bampal, Principal Chief Security Commissioner (PCSC) Ranveer Singh Chauhan, Chief Electrical Engineer (CEE/Loco) Arun Kumar Sharma, Deputy Chief Electrical Engineer (Loco) Anuj Katiyar, Work Manager (Loco) Mukesh Karidhal along with other heads of departments and Staff Council members were also present.
