The CPI(M), rated as the last word in Marxian ideology in India, has made a revolutionary change in its stance vis-Ã -vis private investment in industry, infrastructure and higher education.
The Blue Print for the development of Kerala as New Kerala, authored by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and presented to the delegates of the triennial state conference of the party being held at Ernakulam states that private investment should be encouraged in sectors like infrastructure, health, higher education, traditional industries and major industries.
The delegates are discussing the New Kerala model initiatives prepared by Vijayan before accepting it and placing the same before the Party Congress of the CPI(M) which is scheduled to be held at Kannur next month. Though the development proposals would be formally declared as the party stance only during the Party Congress, chances of any suggestions getting amended look bleak as it was prepared by Vijayan, the most powerful person in the CPI(M) as on today.
While addressing the delegates late Tuesday evening, Vijayan emphasised the need for welcoming private and foreign universities to the State.
He called for mechanisation, automation and modernisation of traditional industries of the State like cashew nut, coir which are facing extinction because of the failure to move forward in synchronisation with the changing times.
Vijayan gave a piece of his mind to the militant trade unions which have ‘succeeded’ in getting many enterprises shut down because of their intransigent attitude towards entrepreneurs. The last week saw three major business enterprises in Kozhikode and Kannur districts downing shutters and entrepreneurs returning to West Asia fed up with militant trade unions.
