A fresh demand arose in the black money case hearing in Supreme Court to disclose the 250 Indians who admitted of having black money accounts in HSBC Bank in Geneva.
After this fact was recently revealed by Finance Minister Arun Jaitley in Parliament during the black money debate, advocate Prashant Bhushan approached the Supreme Court on Wednesday asking for information about the 250 account holders to be made public.
These formed part of the 427 names disclosed by France to Indian authorities. Jaitley had informed Parliament that 250 persons acknowledged of having accounts and settled the matter with the Income Tax authorities by paying taxes.
Bhushan requested the court to make these names public. Although he was not the petitioner before the court and nor his intervention application was allowed by court in the past, the Bench said, “You can request SIT that proceedings are over in case of these 250 people and let these names be disclosed.” However, the Bench, also comprising Justices Madan lokur and AK Sikri, refused to pass an order allowing him permission to approach SIT.
The SIT was represented in court by Solicitor General Ranjit Kumar that was objected to by the petitioner Ram Jethmalani. Senior advocate Anil Divan who represented the petitioner requested for the latest SIT report.
