As announced earlier by former Chief Minister Arjun Munda, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) would start ‘Sand Satryagraha’ from January 16. The agitation is to demand free quarrying of sand from the ghats. State BJP president Ravindra Rai, speaking to the mediapersons on Saturday, said that the BJP workers will stage dharna at the district headquarters all over the State and hand over the sand collected from the various sites in the district.
The party is demanding to make sand quarrying free in the State till any final decision is taken by the Government as the current arrangement has resulted into severe shortage of sand for development work posing a threat on the livelihood of the labourers.
Rai also said that the party workers will start collecting iron from all the panchayats across the State for the ‘Statue of Unity’ for which kits have already been distributed among them.
The kit has a blank banner for taking signatures, a pot for collecting soil from every village along with an invitation card for them in it.
Referring to the mass level transfers of bureaucrats done in last few months by the State Government, Rai said that the party would meet the Chief Electoral Officer of Jharkhand and register its complaint against the move.
“All the transfers have been done keeping the coming election in mind by the State. A delegation of the BJP leaders will meet the Chief Electoral Officer on January 13 requesting to cancel the transfers done by the State Government in the month of December,” added Rai.
