The Bihar Bharatiya Janata Party is contemplating to move the appropriate court to pray for the cancellation of the bail of lalu Prasad alleging that he was violating the conditions set by the court while granting him bail in fodder scam case. The RJD supremo is on bail granted by the Supreme Court in December 2013 two months after his conviction in one of the 20-years old fodder scam cases by the CBI court in Ranchi in October 2013. His bail plea had been rejected by the Jharkhand High Court. The conviction also took his membership of the lok Sabha and barred him from contesting any election.
Senior BJP leader Sushil Kumar Modi said, “lalu has been convicted and is currently out on bail. We are seeking legal opinion if a person convicted in corruption case and out on bail can indulge in political activities.” He also referred to the case of INlD chief and former Haryana Chief Minister Om Prakash Chautala, who was convicted in a teachers recruitment scam case and awarded ten years jail term.
The BJP is, however, on defensive on the issue of DNA and coming out from jail learning bad things as pointed out by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his two political rallies in Muzaffarpur and Gaya recently.Modi said there was difference between jail term for crime and corruption cases and political cases. He gave his own example and said he spent over 24 months in jail during Emergency and was slapped with 38 cases. “Sometimes people are jailed for social causes also,” he said, adding that Nitish Kumar had often been saying that lalu would never be reformed.
Trying to turn table on Nitish for raking up DNA issue and planning to send 50 lakh samples of Biharis for DNA test to PM Modi, the former deputy CM said generally the medical DNA was done to fix the paternity or sex offences. “He is welcome to do so if he suspects the paternity of his party workers. But it is a known fact that Nitish’s political DNA is full of betrayal. If lalu’s political DNA is tested fodder and other scams would tumble out. Public will test their political DNA in the Assembly election and give their reports by rejecting them,” said Modi.
“I suspect that Nitish will send samples of hairs collected from the saloons and blood samples from blood banks,” Modi said suspecting hardly any JD(U)
worker would volunteer in their agitation.
