BJP chief Rajnath Singh will on Saturday announce a nationwide agitation against the ruling alliance, UPA, for covering up issues like corruption, inflation and mismanagement of economy. The party has drawn up the outline of its “aggressive campaign” involving top leaders and some Chief Ministers to reach out to people with a “charge-sheet” against the UPA.
“Dharnas, protest, rallies and all other forms of protest available in the democracy would be held. Our basic idea is to keep going the momentum built up in the just concluded Budget Session,” a
senior BJP leader said. Besides national issues, States-specific issues will also be covered under this programme.
Singh had discussed and took feedback from party leaders on this programme. There was a wide agreement among leaders that party needs to be strengthened at the grassroots. Though, the proposal to appoint convener and in-charge for each lok Sabha constituency has been put on hold for a while. leaders were asked to complete the task by May 25. A convention of all these convener and in-charges has been planned in June.
“Some leaders were concerned about the delay in putting in place an effective mechanism to gear up organisation. Some expressed anguish over the delay in announcement of Prabharis for States,” a BJP leader said.
Another leader argued that while talking about corruption and inflation, State-specific issues were not getting the kind of response it should have got. At this point, former Gujarat BJP chief Purushottam Rupala pointed out that protest by traders in Maharashtra against the local Body Tax proposal of the State Government has not been effectively raised by the party.
Another leader felt that people were not reciprocating to BJP’s campaign against corruption and inflation, and there was a need to fine tune party’s strategy. The BJP will also hold its national executive in Goa in the second or third week of June.
