BJP, RSS to hold meet to discuss national issues

The ruling BJP and its fountainhead, the RSS, will have a 'samanvay baithak', next month, to hear out each other on a number of key issues, including cow protection, Kashmir, incidents involving Dalits, internal security  besides deliberate on preparations for Assembly polls, including those  in Uttar Pradesh, Punjab and Uttarakhand.

The coordination meeting, the venue for which is yet to be decided, will be outside the National capital and attended by top BJP leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat.

According to sources, economic issues raised by RSS outfits like Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh (BMS) and Bharatiya Kisan Sangh (BKS) will also  be taken up by the two sides.

The BMS is expected to raise issues relating to banking and fertiliser industry and insist on continuing with "the joint agreement"  reached with the Government 24 months ago, sources said. "The BMS feels the Government is going back on the assurance", they said. The BMS had recently also raised the issue of import of marble which, according to them, is harming the interests of small domestic players.

As a precursor to the major interaction like the one happened last year in the National capital when many senior Central Ministers gave presentations before the 'samanvay baithak', BJP and RSS leaders had a series of meetings in last couple of months.  The meeting in MP Bhawan had lasted for three days.

"The Government is taking all RSS outfits as genuine stakeholders in the various issues," sources said.

Internal and external security , including 'the shift' in foreign policy with Government broaching issues of Balochistan and Gilgit-Baltistan may also figure prominently during the coordination meet.

The coming Assembly polls, particularly in UP, Punjab and Uttarakhand, which is being discussed at regular intervals during separate meetings between the BJP and the RSS, would again come up for fine-tuning in the meet.

The issues of Dalits and cow protection are expected to  feature big in poll bound States like Uttar Pradesh and Punjab, which have higher Dalit populations. Prime Minister had recently lashed out at the cow vigilantism and received support from the RSS.

While the meeting  will take place in September "before Deepawali", the BJP will also hold its next national executive conclave close to it  in Kozhikode (Calicut) on September 24-25 to  mark the centenary year of former Jan Sangh leader Deendayal Upadhyay.

With BJP winning a 14 per cent vote share in Kerala Assembly polls, the Kozhikode meeting would be an occasion for the BJP  to highlight its southern success and alleged atrocities by left parties and its dispensation.
