Mamata Banerjee is a worried person these days. With the BJP bull-dozing a well-entrenched left Front in Tripura the Bengal Chief Minister has reportedly activated her intra-party “intelligence” network to keep a watch on senior leaders, particularly those who were being investigated in the Sharada and Narada scams, sources said.
Banerjee is already known to have taken a decision about powerful Trinamool satrap: its charge de affairs in South 24 Parganas — which has four parliamentary and 31 Assembly seats — Sobhan Chatterjee who is currently the State Fire Brigade Minister and Kolkata Mayor.
Though Chatterjee once a blue-eyed boy of the Chief Minister has denied having been thrown out of the coterie inside sources said he was just about to lose his Mayorship and the Cabinet berth. He has already been robbed off his Z-Plus security cover. Though insiders would not hazard a wild guess, sources said “one will not be surprised if he dons a saffron robe in days to come.”
When asked to comment on the issue Chatterjee said he did not have any information about what was being revealed to him. “I have been in politics since many years and had been a loyal soldier of the Trinamool Congress and will continue to remain so. I have no hand in any decision of the top brass.”
The TMC top brass is keeping a close watch on a number of councilors and a couple of powerful Ministers and MPs from Midnapore for their alleged growing chemistry with the saffron leadership, reports say.
“A former MP and at least two Ministers are under close watch,” said a source at the Trinamool Bhavan adding the Chief Minister who had assigned the organisatinal works to her nephew and MP Abhishek Banerjee was now personally supervising things.
