A BJP leader was allegedly duped by a fake e-commerce company after he placed an online order for a mobile phone and received a packet stuffed with stones instead.

According to police, Khagen Murmu, BJP MP from North Malda constituency, had placed an online order for a mobile phone with an e-commerce company for his son. The price of the phone was Rs 11,999. But after he had paid cash on delivery, he found that the consignment had been sent by some different company.

“Initially, I thought that it could be some technical mistake. But when I opened the box I found it filled with stones,” the MP said adding he had informed the matter to the police and the courier boy was being questioned.

Though the company has reportedly apologised and assured return of the cash, Murmu said he will bring the entire matter to the notice of the Union Consumer Affairs Department and the Minister concerned. “It seems to be a fake company,” a senior police officer said adding the case was being investigated.
