Samajwadi Party national President and former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Akhilesh Yadav, said that democracy was in peril because the Bharatiya Janata Party had no faith in democracy and his party would work unitedly to protect the State and the democracy.

Addressing a large number of people at Dr Ram Manohar Lohia Auditorium here on Thursday, Yadav said that the responsibility of the party workers was big because Uttar Pradesh decided the direction of the country's politics.

“Constitutional institutions are being overruled by the BJP. They are being weakened. These institutions are also conspiring to affect the election,” Yadav said.

He said that democracy was in danger and in order to save it from BJP's deceit, the Samajwadi Party had to stop the efforts of the ruling party to suppress the voice of the people.

“BJP is spreading lies and is making a strategy to defame the Samajwadi Party. The propaganda system of the BJP is active and is working against us. The workers of Samajwadi Party should be aware of these activities of the BJP,” the SP national president said.

Questioning the governance of Yogi Adityanath, Akhilesh Yadav said four-and-a half years had passed and only a few months were left for the Vidhan Sabha elections, but the BJP had nothing to show in its report card. “The development of the state has been stalled,” he said.

“Inflation, unemployment and draconian farm laws are the achievements of the BJP raj. The farmers are not getting good remunerative prices of their produce. The prices of LPG and petrol have sky-rocketed, but the ruling party is not concerned,” the former Chief Minister said.

Yadav said people were looking towards Samajwadi Party. He said the people had made up their mind to ensure victory of Samajwadi Party in the next elections and the SP was sure to win 350 seats.
