The CPI on Friday also waded into the controversy related to CPI(M) leader Prakash Karat’s recent article saying the BJP is authoritarian not fascist.

CPI general secretary S Sudhakar Reddy on Friday said the party feels the BJP Government is “fascistic but not fascist yet”, while agreeing to most of the observations of Karat’s article.

Reddy’s lengthy article titled as ‘Another view on BJP’ is an indication that most of the comrades were not agreeing to Karat’s view. Recently, CPI’s student wing AISF’s leader Kanhaiya Kumar had ridiculed Karat for saying BJP is not a fascist one. “Uncle, if you can’t fight, better go to New York and take rest,” said the JNU leader at a function in Kolkata, which created anger among CPI(M) cadres.

“The article of CPI (M) politbureau member Prakash Karat recently published in an English daily is very important as it tries to analyse the character of the present BJP Government at the Centre…The present regime cannot be characterised as fascist yet. Some left intellectuals and some groups loosely use the word fascist to describe the present regime,” said Reddy.
