Parui in Birbhum district that had for the good part of last year seen sporadic bloody battles between the Trinamool Congress and the BJP, seemed to have erupted once again with ruling party musketeers and bombers attacking the BJP dominated villages from all sides forcing people to flee in hordes, sources said.

Masked musketeers of Trinamool attacked Makhra, Jadavpur throwing bombs, torching huts belonging to the opposition households and sparing not even women, sources said adding the police simply looked the other way. A local BJP leader said, “Trinamool men were attacking the villages because they wanted to dominate these areas ahead of next year’s elections.”

The State BJP had decided to send a four-member team led by MlA Samik Bhattacharya and actor Rupa Ganguli. More than a dozen people have been killed; police attacked and bombs in thousands were recovered from the boondocks of Parui in the past one year or so. District Trinamool leaders however, said that it was the BJP which had been attacking there men. “The relatives of our local leader Md. Mustafa were attacked leading to the fight,” they said.

Meanwhile, about 25,000 detonators were seized from an abandoned vehicle at Gangajal Ghati in Bankura district on Tuesday, police sources said. “We acted on a tip-off and intercepted the vehicle on NH — 7 but the occupants had fled,” Police Superintendent SK Neelkantam said not ruling out possibility of the explosives being taken for some subversive activities. “We are investigating the case,” he said.
